Hmm, it is very difficult to have another form of transport other than buses. Current state of affairs, as it organizes ... Well, you'll see once you arrive. There must be a ship lines btwn Dubrovnik and Zadar, but I advise you to stay on a few islands in the middle. It would pay double the price to get the island and go. Moreover, the Croatian islands are not cheap at all! The best way is to go from one point to another.
If you have time, would be a better idea if you could arrange two trips daily between dub and Zadar, and you can visit some nice places like Split, Sibenik and Makarska on the road.
